Parenting
The parenting of young children, pre-teens, and adolescents can be difficult
to navigate. Many parents often feel frustrated and unsure of how to better
understand and address their child’s behaviour, as well as the underlying
developmental and emotional needs that impact behaviour. Many parents
report that the frequent use of methods such as 'time-outs', rewards,
consequences, explaining, lecturing, and demanding are often ineffective,
provide only a temporary 'fix', or ultimately fail to enhance the development
of their child or teenager.
I have a strong interest, and training, in teaching effective parenting skills that, in addition to helping behaviour concerns, also help parents understand the important developmental, emotional, and neurobiological needs of their child. Through consultation sessions, parents learn how to respond to their child in ways that not only have positive and long-lasting behavioural results, but also enhance the emotional and psychological development of their child. In addition, these methods help parents to build healthier and more secure relationships with their child, something research is showing is essential for promoting healthy psychological functioning, and positive behaviour in children and adolescents.
Through parenting sessions, you will learn to:- Enhance the behavioural and emotional development of your child
- Communicate more effectively with your child
- Address aggression
- Respond effectively to resistance, counterwill, and ‘tantrums’
- Re-set parent-child boundaries
- Implement effective and attachment-safe discipline methods
- Build a better parent-child relationship
